Smiling Friends Cancelled? In a move that feels as chaotic as a Mr. Frog public appearance, Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel have officially announced that their Adult Swim powerhouse, Smiling Friends, will conclude after its third season.

Smiling Friends Cancelled? No, Just Finishing the Job After Season 3
While the word “cancelled” is flying around social media like a loose Blibly, the reality is far more deliberate: the creators are simply clocking out while the coffee is still hot.
The Shocking Announcement
On February 25, 2026, Zach Hadel took to Adult Swim’s social channels to deliver the news with his signature bluntness. “I’m gonna cut right to the chase,” Hadel stated. “This is not a bit, this is not a joke. Michael and I are here to announce that Smiling Friends will be ending after Season 3 is done.”
The news caught fans off guard, primarily because Adult Swim had previously greenlit the show for Seasons 4 and 5 back in June 2025. To “un-renew” a hit show is rare, but according to the duo, the decision was entirely theirs.
Why Stop Now?

For Cusack and Hadel, the choice came down to two things: burnout and integrity. After years of pouring “110%” into the surreal, frame-dense world of the Smiling Friends Inc. office, the creators felt they had achieved what they set out to do.
“We wouldn’t want to be doing more seasons half-hearted or burnt out… that’s not fair to the audience to give you guys [garbage],” Hadel explained.
Adult Swim, to its credit, reportedly gave the duo its full blessing, telling them to take a break and that the door remains open should they ever want to return to the characters.
What’s Left for Fans?
Though Season 3’s main run concluded in late 2025, the “job” isn’t quite finished yet. There are still two “straggler” episodes—bonus content that didn’t fit into the initial broadcast—set to air on April 12, 2026:
- “Friend-Bot”: The gang meets a helpful robot (with presumably disastrous results).
- “Charlie’s Uncle Dies and Doesn’t Come Back”: A spiritual successor to the Season 1 finale that promises to make Allan “completely lose it.”

Is This Really the End?
In the world of Smiling Friends, nothing is ever truly dead (unless you’re a Century Egg). While the series is ending as a weekly show, Hadel and Cusack haven’t ruled out future specials or a return in another form down the line.
For now, Pim and Charlie are retiring at the top of their game, proving that sometimes the best way to make people smile is to leave them wanting more
