Balmoral Email: A cache of documents released overnight by the US Department of Justice has delivered a fresh jolt to the long-running saga of Jeffrey Epstein and his associates.
Buried within thousands of pages is a casual, almost bantering email sent in August 2001 from a sender identified only as “A,” writing from “Balmoral.”

“Inappropriate Friends”: The ‘A’ from Balmoral Email That Has Reignited the Royal Scandal
By Gyan, Date: December 23, 2025
The message, addressed to convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, contains a request that has sent shockwaves through the media: the sender asks Maxwell if she has managed to find him “some new inappropriate friends.”
The “Invisible Man” at Balmoral
The email thread, where the sender is occasionally referred to as “The Invisible Man,” paints a picture of a man entrenched in the upper echelons of the British establishment. The sender writes:
“I am up here at Balmoral Summer Camp for the Royal Family. Activities take place all day and I am totally exhausted at the end of each day.”
The message continues with complaints about being “shattered” by “The Girls” and needing to give them an early night. It concludes with the now-infamous line: “How’s LA? Have you found me some new inappropriate friends?”
While the email is signed only with the initial “A,” the biographical markers contained within the text have led widespread media coverage and analysts to identify the sender as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew.
Connecting the Dots: The “RN” Link

Beyond the location—Balmoral Castle is the private Scottish residence of the British Royal Family—the correspondence contains specific biographical details that align with the Duke of York’s life.
In the exchanges, “A” mentions having recently left the “RN” (Royal Navy). Historical records confirm that Prince Andrew concluded his active service with the Royal Navy in July 2001, just one month before the email was sent.
In a separate exchange from the same tranche of documents, Maxwell apologizes to “A” for only finding “appropriate” friends, to which the sender replies, “Distraught!”
The Peru Connection and “Two-Legged Sightseeing”
The files also shed light on a trip to Peru in early 2002, further cementing the close operational relationship between “A,” Maxwell, and Epstein.
In February 2002, Maxwell forwarded correspondence to “A” regarding travel arrangements. The thread discusses facilitating meetings with “girls.” When asked by a third party about the traveler’s preferences, “A” replies: “As for girls well I leave that entirely to you…!”
A later email from March 2002 lists requests for the trip, including a crude reference to “Some sight seeing some 2 legged sight seeing (read intelligent pretty fun and from good families).” Maxwell, in her correspondence, refers to “A” as “a very English sounding gentleman on the phone.”
Renewed Scrutiny

These communications arrive alongside a series of newly released photographs showing Epstein and Maxwell deeply embedded in Prince Andrew’s life. The images depict the trio hunting at Balmoral, attending Ascot in the Royal Box, and socializing at Sandringham.
Prince Andrew has consistently and vigorously denied all accusations of wrongdoing regarding his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. He has previously stated he has no recollection of meeting Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual assault—a civil case he settled out of court in 2022 without admitting liability.
While the “inappropriate friends” email does not in itself constitute evidence of a crime, the casual nature of the request to a woman now serving 20 years for sex trafficking has intensified the public pressure and scrutiny surrounding the Duke’s former associations.
