Meta’s New AI Glasses: At this year’s Meta Connect event, CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the next generation of AI glasses: the Meta Ray-Ban Display and the Meta Neural Band. This release marks a significant step toward integrating augmented reality into daily life in a subtle and stylish way.

Meta’s New AI Glasses: The Meta Ray-Ban Display

Unlike previous models that focused on audio and camera functions, the Meta Ray-Ban Display introduces a full-color, high-resolution display embedded in the right lens. This monocular display is strategically placed off to the side, ensuring it doesn’t obstruct your view of the real world.

The display is designed for quick, glanceable interactions, such as viewing notifications, real-time translations, and step-by-step instructions.

Key features of the smart glasses include:

  • Integrated Display: A high-resolution, full-color display is projected onto the inside of the right lens, allowing users to see information like messages, navigation, and visual AI responses.
  • Enhanced AI: The glasses leverage Meta AI to provide visual answers to queries. For example, you can ask for a recipe and see the step-by-step instructions appear right in your field of view.
  • Camera and Audio: It retains the 12MP camera for hands-free photo and video capture and includes a six-microphone array with open-ear speakers for calls and music.

The Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses, which come with the Neural Band, are priced at $799 and will be available in the US starting on September 30th.

The Meta Neural Band

The Meta Neural Band is a wristband that acts as the primary control system for the new glasses. Using electromyography (EMG) technology, the band detects the subtle electrical signals from muscle activity in your forearm, translating tiny, barely perceptible hand and finger movements into digital commands.

This eliminates the need to touch the glasses or pull out your phone, offering a truly hands-free experience.

The band’s technology is a result of extensive research and training on a large dataset of human muscle signals, allowing it to work seamlessly for almost anyone out of the box.

Applications for the Neural Band go beyond simple navigation; in the near future, it will enable users to write messages by subtly moving their fingers, making interaction with the glasses feel effortless.

The band has an 18-hour battery life and an IPX7 water-resistant rating, making it suitable for all-day wear.
